About

This article is about a study on children who were evacuated from the Chornobyl disaster area to Kyiv. It describes how, 11 years later, these children and their classmates had similar mental health except for anxiety related to Chornobyl and school performance. Mothers of evacuees saw their children's well-being as worse, especially with physical symptoms. The main reasons for this were mothers' stress and worries about Chornobyl. Despite the trauma faced by families, children's self-reports showed protective factors in their lives that helped them cope better than expected.
