This article examines the level of emergency preparedness among families caring for children with type 1 diabetes mellitus. A study conducted at Texas Children's Hospital involved 115 families and assessed their readiness for disasters or emergencies. Results showed that while families were well-prepared for managing diabetes on a daily basis, they were generally unprepared for major disasters. Socioeconomic status played a significant role in preparedness levels, with higher and moderate status families being more equipped for emergencies. The study highlights the need to improve disaster preparedness, especially among families of lower socioeconomic status.
