About
This article examines how children and teens cope with natural disasters. It describes two meta-analyses that explore the link between coping strategies and psychological outcomes, like stress or resilience. The study finds that some coping methods, such as problem-solving and seeking social support, are linked to positive adjustment. Others, like escape or social isolation, relate to negative symptoms. Factors like age and disaster type also play a role in these outcomes. Understanding effective coping can help prepare young people for future disasters by promoting better mental health strategies before, during, and after such events.
