This study conducted a survey among 35 pediatric intensive care units (PICUs) in the United States (US) to assess COVID-19 preparedness. 22 PICUs responded and reported changes in staffing, patient care, and training during the pandemic. Most PICUs cared for COVID-19 patients, with many facing shortages in personal protective equipment (PPE). Training on PPE use was common, with simulation as the preferred method. Changes in clinical protocols and guidelines were a major concern. PICUs adapted their practices to manage COVID-19 patients effectively and emphasized the importance of ongoing research to improve preparedness for future waves.
