About
This report examines two theories explaining school violence: Sampson and Laub’s developmental/life course social control perspective, which analyzes developmental patterns and variables throughout individuals' lives, and the rational choice and situational crime prevention perspectives, which focus on decision-making and crime opportunities. The American School Shooting Study (TASSS) was created to address the lack of reliable data, documenting school shootings in the U.S. from 1990 to 2016. TASSS aims to document school shootings empirically, understand perpetrators, and compare fatal and non-fatal incidents, providing findings and recommendations for future research.
