This article provides insights into suicide prevalence among American Indian or Alaska Native (AI/AN) individuals compared to non-AI/AN persons in the United States, utilizing data from the National Violent Death Reporting System (NVDRS) spanning 2015 to 2020. AI/AN suicide decedents exhibited higher odds of certain relationship problems, substance use issues, and crises, but lower odds of mental health diagnoses and treatment compared to non-AI/AN decedents. The findings underscore the need for culturally relevant suicide prevention strategies targeting the systemic disparities affecting AI/AN populations, highlighting the importance of addressing these issues in public health practice.
