About
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA) Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP) aimed to enhance the substance use prevention field by developing prevention core competencies. This involved a three-phase plan: identifying prevention domains and principles, defining substance use prevention core competencies, and determining knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) for each competency. Expert panels were utilized to develop competencies and KSAs, aligning with SAMHSA's Strategic Prevention Framework. The final competencies and KSAs are expected to guide professional development in the prevention field, influence staff training, career progression, and service delivery qualifications.Tags
